The Maasai of East Africa are the most iconic of cultural groups in northern Tanzania. With one foot firmly planted in their traditional family-groups and societies, they are proudly stepping into contemporary life. Traditionally, they lead a semi-nomadic life of cattle and goat-herding. As grazing diminishes, they move, building their new boma with cow-dung huts and thorn-fenced kraal. These photographs are not from a tourist boma. Rather, they from well-off the beaten track, from the bomas of our two Maasai friends, Baraka and Kalanga.
